Ecovision Credentials

Written by Anthony Mills, April 1999

The background to the Ecovision concept discusses my experience in the design and implementation of guided ecological walks. I believe that my formal training at university has provided me with a diverse skill set that is suited for interpreting ecology to ecotourists. Ecology is an incredibly broad topic and requires an understanding of fields as diverse as zoology, botany, geology, geography, soil science and even chemistry to create a holistic picture of how nature is operating. I covered all of these topics in detail during my university years. My university history is outlined below:

1995 University of Cambridge, Peterhouse, England
Master of Philosophy, Environment & Development

Subjects included: environmental policy; environmental economics; development policy; global climate change; tropical forest ecology.
1994 University of Cape Town
Master of Science, Environmental Geochemistry

Subjects included: soil science; geology; water chemistry; air pollutants; quantitative pollution analysis; ecological effects of pollutants.
1993 Trent University, Canada
Bachelor of Science Honours year

Courses included: applied ecology; eco-toxicology; waste management; ecology of freshwater lakes; tropical forest ecology; environmental economics.
1991 University of Cape Town
